What’s our idea anyway?
What’s the Idea Professional Editing is a Canadian freelance editing business that offers a comprehensive suite of editing services. My goal is for your work to be ready for publication while honouring your ideas. How do I do that?
I offer a collaborative, empathetic approach to authors to understand their goals and the important ideas driving them to create their project.
I edit their work to strive for error-free text that meets the needs of their readers, whoever that may be.
By the end, my goal is for your work to be ready for publication while making your ideas shine through the writer’s voice.
What’s the Idea is a Canadian-based digital publication that explores art, products, events, and ideas themselves while trying to understand, appreciate, and articulate the ideas behind them from an empathetic viewpoint. The articles are a reflection of the subjects that I'm interested in, projects that I’m working on, and research that I’m doing, perhaps for my What’s Your Idea interview series.
Who’s making this happen?
Matthew Long is the owner and creator of “What’s the Idea”.
He has a diverse portfolio of editing and writing projects, with a focus on non-fiction and business writing, but he’s open to any opportunity where he can make a difference.
Since 2023, he has been the Chair of the Publications Committee for Editors Canada, which is a non-profit member-run organization representing and advocating for Canada’s community of editors. Learn more about Editors Canada and how an editor can improve your writing at their website.
Matt lives in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada with his partner, Freya, and their dog, Ellie. If he isn’t editing, writing, or working on another project, you can probably find him watching an old movie (the ‘70s isn’t that old, right?)
